Five Yorkshire charities have shared a £90,000 “major grants” windfall from the region’s Freemasons.
The financial donations – which ranged in value from £9,000 to £30,500 – were presented at the Freemasons’ Province of Yorkshire West Riding’s annual meeting in May 2018, held at the Royal Hall, Harrogate.
Representatives from the five organisations were presented with their cheques by the fraternity’s Provincial Grand Master, David S Pratt, at the event attended by Freemasons from Yorkshire’s four counties and beyond.
Members of Mirfield Lodge 1102 were delighted to be successful in their application for funding to support the Yorkshire Lions Wheelchair Rugby Team which is part of SPINE the Yorkshire Region Spinal Injury Centre.
A cheque for £9,000 was presented to enable the purchase of two wheelchair rugby chairs for use by two young players who suffer from cerebral palsy.
This is the second time Mirfield 1102 has supported those with spinal injuries. In 2013, two members of the Lodge raised over £7,000 on a sponsored cycle ride in South Africa. Those funds went to REGAIN, the UK charity for those with spinal sports injuries.
